I have had this for a while from a collection that was passed down to me. I have always wondered about it. I wonder what happened to it. Any ideas?
Looks like some sort of Mint error , 1st I thought post mint , but the letters on the raised portion say happened at the mint , can't wait till one of the error experts check in . rzage
yah I think spooned too. is the rim wider than usual? if so, I would say spooned. on this series how much higher is the rim of the coin than the franklins portrait? is it possible that someone rubbed it on something rough and ground down the edges? like in that video "how to make a penny into a dime"
My dad told me on the voyage to the various islands in the Pacific in WWII they had a lot of off time so they would spoon coins into rings , so this is how they looked . It's neat how the letters curved with the top , learn something everyday here , thanks . rzage
Yup, I agree it is spooned too. The rim is much wider than usual. Makes sense as my grandfather was in both world wars.
