1858 Cent with damage

    Here is another coin with damage. I am not sure if this is post mint or not. Any idea? Sorry about the pics, I am far from a pro. :)

    Might be a die cud at 11 O' Clock on the rim , is that green stuff PVC contamination .

    Yes, it was damaged outside the Mint. There is no cud.

    What caused the raised area Mike , any ideas ?

    I don't see a raised area, just an area that's been flattened, roughed up, and distorted by some sort of impact or compressive force.

    Yea 11:00 on the Obverse is opposite the damage on the reverse , so when looking at the coin from obverse it looks a little raised . Thanks .

    No PVC. It has been in my grandfathers error collection since at least the 60's. At first I thought maybe it came in contact with a train, but I just don't know.
