When comparing my 1943 nickel to other nickels, it has an S on the back under E.Pluibus Unum why don't the other ones have this? And, the 1954 and 1957 nickels have what appears to be a D next to the building. I'm going to try and have some pictures posted today or tomorrow.

1943 is a warwtime nickel, its 35% silver, and the mint mark is above the dome of Monticello. 1946 the pre-war mint mark came back. And I could be wrong, but I think they moved it agsin in '48.

Would these nickels have any value to them?

It all depends on their condition. If they are not in good shape they are not worth much. But I think the 1943 is worth at $1 in silver right now. Pics would help, but if they aren't uncirculated they're not worth alot.

    Samario,

Your 1943 S Nickel with the S is a San Francisco mintmark, its where the coin was manufactured. 104,060,000 were minted that year. The 1954 and 1957 nickels are Denver mintmarks. The 1954 D had a mintage of 117,183,060, and the 1957 D had a mintage of 136,828,900. The 1943 S contains about .350 silver content or a little over 1/3.

    Samario,

Do you own a copy of the Red Book? If you don't you should consider buying one. The answers to many of your questions can be found in this book. There is a ton of basic information for the new collector in the Red Book. Plus it makes interesting reading.
