Not mine. JR-2 4 Berries variety if the label is correct. I know she's in rough shape, but might be what I can afford on my meager budget. Seems to be in better shape (or currently a more reasonable price) than most of what I can find for sale on any coin dealer website.
VG8 Edit: after a look at photograde I think I'm too high. Live and learn. The reveal will be interesting.
I would give it a net grade of Good. Some design aspects have VG sharpness, but minor defects lower the grade. Having said that it would be a great addition to a Good or better type set.
I believe early US coins in lower grades with minor issues will be net graded. My min grade for any US coin is VF35 (yes, I am a coin snob) so I don’t even dare to guess
These are tightly graded. The dimes often show really nice hair detail like this even in AG03. This one may have gotten a bump to G04, however. But I'll go with AG03 CAC worthy.
@C-B-D nailed it. I have a lot to learn about this series... going by the ANA grading standards, I really thought I saw enough detail to be G-4 (as many of you did). I still think that she still looks nicer than most similarly-graded coins that I'm seeing out there right now, though.
For comparison, here is the competition: FA-2 #1 FA-2 #2 FR02 #3 FR02 #4 (reverse) AG-G (raw) G-04 (I don't understand how this one made G4 and the one I posted didn't?) VG-8 #1 VG-8 #2 VG #3
Yes, thank you for that. Hard to believe that coin is only About Good!!! But again, I had little or no idea about the grading process of these things. I should just sit back, watch and learn!
Most of the early coins that the TPGs have graded at the low numbers are atrocious. I think that AG-3 is bit low for this dime. These coins were struck without a protective rim to shield the tops of the letters on the reverse from wear. Some weakness in those areas is to be expected on a well-worn example.
