Weighed about 100 pennies, all normal, till 1970 d weighed 3.28, used 2 professional grade scales, checked calibration with a few test weights (5 gram cal. Shown) zeroed scale.... is this error somehow?

Yep, a little heavy. Thick rolled planchet but not much collector value unless more than that. Others will have more info to follow, I’m sure.

The tolerance for copper cents is +/-.13 making the range 2.98-3.24.
3.28 is not heavy enough to be significant.

Sounds like the planchet was a wee bit thick. No extra premium for that.

For it to be a collectible Rolled Thick Planchet, in my opinion, it should exceed expected thickness including tolerance (1.52 mm -0.102/+0.152 mm). It should show a thickness in excess of 1.672mm.
