Everyone likes their shiny little yellow metal...so let me ask, if you already have, what was your first AU Gold coin, bar, medal or other numismatic item purchased? Do you still have it? What was your reason to purchase it?

It's part of my $2.50 Indian set. One of the common dates. I can't say which one because I got a really good deal by buying 6 coins to get me going. I need a 1911-D weak date. When I bought one I bought the strong D.

    Well let's see.
Yes still have it, not sure if it was a coin or bar (leaning toward coin):D
I buy what I like, so I still like it.
The reason behind buying it was I sold off a bunch of car parts that I'd been sitting on for the better part of 20 years.
I was moving to another house so down sizing the hoard of car stuff was a serious necessity and figured one investment for another just in a smaller footprint was the ticket.

My first gold was a sovereign. Bought it the day after the Brexit vote. Figured I couldn't go wrong. :p I love the design and I love holding AU but if need be, it is just another form of currency to me and I would sell it. I can't say that about other coins in my collection.

I bought type coins for the 2.50 and $5 Indian golds. Both have green CAC stickers.

I would love a $2.50 or a $5 Indian. I saw a 2.5 for melt at the Baltimore shoe about 2 years ago and I am still kicking myself for not buying it.

I found it during a nickel CRH event. Tossed it into the foreign coin can for a few months before realizing it was a gold Ducat. Machine wrapped by the way.

Would have been a 1oz American Gold Eagle in 1986 while I was still in college.
And no, I still don't have it.

I have been mulling putting together a 1986-Current AGE set one of these days when Gold floats back down to a reasonable spot price.

Bought a big "collection" from eBay early in my re-introduction to the hobby. It included a Liberty $10, Liberty $5, and Indian $2.5. Still have them, now in ANACS slabs; none graded cleanly (rim bumps, cleaned, and cleaned), but they're still gold, and genuine.

No I don't remember, it's been so long ago. I'm sure I must have sold it along the way.

Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz. bullion coin - purchased in 2016 from APMEX for $1312 + no tax (spot was $1295) - today, that coin would be $1528 + $101 tax - no more gold coins for me until the tax is dropped

As I mentioned above, this was bought with a $10 Eagle. The one I saw and really liked was a 1 OZ, $20 Liberty Double Eagle. I bought it Raw and sent it to NGC for grading. I still like this coin.
