If any of you have seen my posts in the past I have two tellers at my local bank looking out for star notes and older notes as well and they have provided me with about $3000 worth of Star notes so far. Today I got this note and was so excited to get home and look it up in my Small-size U.S. Paper Money Guide and was blown away that it's valued at $1,400 in Ch. CU. Does anyone have an opinion on the grade of this note? There are no pinholes, folds, wrinkles or bent corners, this thing is crisp and in perfect condition but I don't know a single thing about grading currency. A 58 and a 68 almost look the same to me so please give it a look and tell me what you think because I may not hold onto this one, it may go up on Ebay. Thanks a lot
Well, based on your description, it looks like a solid note. The margins are nice and I don't see any distracting marks, etc. I'd guess it's in the 50s, maybe AU 58, but it could possibly be in the low 60s as well. I'm not an expert but that looks like a great note. Take care of that teller! As an edit, you may want to consider getting that note graded if it's worth as much as you think it is. I would bet that you could recover the cost of getting it graded (and then some) if you decide to sell it.
I give my tellers gift cards for lunch when finds like that come in, something like three weeks ago I got $1000 face in Series 1934-1950-E notes, including one D Star. My teller got lunch out of that one. I think yours is a better find though, I really like these US notes.
that is one sweet note. i havent come across any of those in any condition at work. i do get lots of $100 for 1934 but not in such good condition. graet snag:thumb:
I was thinking of throwing her $50 along with instructions to tell all of the other tellers to keep all the stars and old notes that they find. Every time I go to my bank she has an envelope with my name on it with some nice goodies inside, pretty sweet hook up.
Very nice - give it to her in the form of a gift card (Visa/MC/Amex, for example), in a nice card so there's no appearance of impropriety.
I'm very envious. I'd give her a real nice gift to ensure the stuff keeps coming. It's well worth $100 or so to have someone working so hard for you.
Very nicely centered and nice margins as well. Always hard to judge by scans though. Corners look sharp from what I can tell. IF there are no slight folds (counting etc) then it could well go CU or better. If there are it still should merit high end AU. clembo
I used CGA once before for currency and had a good experience with them. You may want to send it to them and see what it comes back as.
One of my banks tellers saves old stuff for me, but it costs me in SC's that I sell her at face. To be on the up and up we have a manager come over and handle the transaction. Otherwise it is gift card time.
