I’m not sure why it is, but I find I’m most attracted to rainbow toned coins with that vibrant green color that appears just inside the rim, often in an uneven pattern, rather than appearing as a band of uniform width. I suspect that particular hallmark has something to do with where and how the coins have been stored that controls how the coin toned overall.

When I find examples I like, I’ll add links to this post . . .

Not sure if this one fits the bill, but there is green, it’s along the rim, and uneven.

Yes, that’s the idea, although I prefer coins with more mint luster than that . . . I presume you do too.

Well, I do like some luster. But for $4.50 it’s hard to say no to that coin. It is one of my very few worn coins.

So this has very subtle toning around the edge of the obverse, much like album toning. I shot and re-shot this several times and just cannot seem to get the lighting right to make it show very well. Has flow lines on the obverse as well, probably from well used dies. I was thinking more like a patina look. I was thinking of another word but I can't recall it right now. But I get you point.

Got this in change in the till. Oddly toned for only a year old. AT? 20191205_190330.jpg 20191205_190355.jpg

My friend at the LCS sets aside toned coins that aren't particularly valuable, then gives them to me so I can take pictures. This 1967 Lincoln and a 1966 were the latest freebies.

I know I posted this Jefferson just the other day, but I wanted to post it along with this Lincoln that I have also. I noticed Robec (Bob) gave me a like on the jeff. He has good taste as he gave me the Jefferson and this beauty of a Lincoln in the NGC Forum Secret Santa in 2013. Yep Bob, I still have them both. Thank you!
