My answer is, NO !!!!!!!!!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-S-LIN...VERY-RARE-SCARCE-GEM-MS-69-S-DDO/133261823493
I'm watching this listing. To see how many fools continue to bid on it. So silly Armando Delafuente (seller) knows nothing about true Doubled Die varieties. Sad thing is that it is an ongoing problem. Poor education and horrible YouTube videos full of misinformation!
Great question . Back when these were first reported, the secrete service set out to pick them all up ( fakes ) . Two brothers were responsible . Here's a good article on the taking . https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1969-s-1c-ddo-fs-101-028-rb/37995
Thanks, Rick! Not being a collector of such well-known varieties, I never knew about this story. I think more people searching for varieties of Lincoln Cents should read this. Chris
I don't even look at ads from sellers who blatantly break ebay's rules regarding using numerical grades for ungraded coins. It just seems like being too lazy (or dumb) to say "Superb Gem" instead of MS-69 for a raw coin, is a a strong indication that the seller does not care and there will only be more problems.
Well... It is MS. It is a '69 Is it MS69 ? I don't know about all that, and with the "-" in between (MS - 69), it can be misleading at least. The Coin may be worth a couple bucks to someone, but not as a mint error DD. Edit: his/her feedback sucks anyway.
The article you link says the 1969 were the fakes, and the 1969-S are legit. So, for me the coin still remains possibly legitimate. The date is doubled, the mint-mark is not. Other areas look normal for the DDO compared with PCGS. I don't know much about error collecting, the seller might be sketchy, but I fail to see what's wrong with the coin itself. Looks like a AU55-AU58 example of the real DDO. Are you thinking the FBI would mistake this for a counterfeit 1969, or are you saying the coin itself is fake?
I have many of these. still finding them while roll searching. Worth whatever someone wants to pay for it.
Honestly there is so much Penny Talk! There are very few Lincoln cents that I would want to own. The error could be a pipe etched in the coin NO INTEREST.
Go to PCGS coin facts and you can see that it doesn't exactly match a true 1969-S DDO. For a coin this rare, I wouldn't throw my money at a raw one unless I had another set of expert set of eyes look at it. The MS 69 grade is a laugh as well; the dings in the obverse field to the left of the head is just one reason.
