Look what I found in the mail this morning! It's now sitting on my desk and eagerly waits for Dec. 17th. Thanks a lot, Secret Saturn!

My own gift is still with USPS, but the tracking says it should arrive soon.

I feel the same way...and what I like about his forum is most people do as well. But, as part of that, my guess is that everyone here wants to make sure they represent the forum properly by gifting well. So, I'm always a little insecure about what is sent.

Gifting well, as you said, doesn't automatically mean paying a lot of money for the items. What I received this year will go into my collection as some of my favorite coins, and according the note, the sender pulled them from his collection.

They're actually more meaningful because of that. I won't go any deeper than that until the post with the pics, etc. The entire story will work better when the pics are included.

That's a nice thing to do. Personally I've always modeled my coins after whom I'm gifting them to.

A brand new collector will be thrilled with any coins they can get, so a decent LRB for $20-$40 seems appropriate.

A more seasoned collector will have more intriguing tastes, so I try to see carefully what they want and try to get a coin based on their tastes for under $75.

Ive yet to be paired with Ancient Joe or another high roller, but if that happened then obviously mortgaging my house is not an option, so they'd have to be content with a coin that's no more than $100 or so.

Only if they are in Florida. :D After all, I'm not a lawyer in 49 out of 50 states.

I try to do the same thing. If they like Roman Provincials, then they get a provincial, etc.

I’d go the route of getting a nice coin in a collecting area that he’s not yet pursuing (Arabic, Chinese, etc.).

That's the beauty of it - he did. The package included a note that said he searched my posts and noticed my affinity for Fel Temp coins and he pulled them from his personal collection.

Seems like a bunch of us think the same way. Although, in the past I've also received coins that weren't in my usual wheelhouse that I loved.

When it comes to Secret Saturnalia, as a coin junkie, I don't think we can lose!

Gonna be honest, I only had two ancient coins in my "collection," so I kept one and gave the other.

I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing everyone's Secret Saturnalia gifts. Today was a rainy crappy day so I couldn't take pictures of any of my coins. I figured I would check in to see if anyone had posted anything yet but to no avail. I've had to make due with looking through everyone's awesome top 10 posts and searching vcoins haha. I think I may have a problem...

I much prefer to give than receive. Much of the fun for me is learning more about the person to whom I’m gifting and then hunting for that perfect gift. If I’ve done my gifting well I’m sure my recipient will know I put thought and consideration into what I’ve given and that will always supersede whatever value may or may not be intrinsic.

Whereas for me, the gifting is the most stress and anxiety inducing part of the whole process.

Though I received my SS present weeks ago, I've been waiting for my giftees present to arrive!:inpain:
It arrived today and has been sent out, I've been assured with plenty of time to arrive before Saturnalia (I had to explain to the mail lady just what it was).
    Io Saturnalia!

The first year I participated I was stressed out too, but learned to relax a bit since as they say it truly is the thought that counts. I hope you got me since I know whatever you may have sent would be perfect! -d
