What kind of finish is on this 1921 S Morgan Silver Dollar? Dipped, Whizzed, Cleaned, Silver Plated, Normal ? and what kind of value is it now worth, if any other than Silver bullion? I have my own opinion, but I'd like to hear from everyone else first. Thanks.
My guess is that it's been whizzed, though, even if not, it has been harshly cleaned at a minimum. as such, I believe it has about zero value beyond its bullion content.
I think it was probably whizzed too, although I've never actually whizzed a coin myself or watched anyone else do it. I'd like to some time in order to better recognize the tell-tale markings. If you carry the coin in your pocket for about a year it might wear down to a nice VF condition. The natural wear might remove enough of the surface to bring it back closer to normal looking.
It may have been abused in other ways also but, My own take on this that this coin has been plated- looks very similar to the treated plated appearance that you see on very "SHINY" 1943 Lincoln Cents. Zero value other than Silver Bullion! Thanks for your opinions!- appreciate it. Chuck.
Whizzing usually leaves 1000s of uniform marks fron the brushes used to even out a coins surface , this coin probably was whizzed , as you can see all the tiny marks on the coins surface , also by the metal that was moved into the edges of the stars . One heck of a hack job on this coin . rzage
Whizzing gives that effect also , but to the degree this one shines , who knows what he did to it . Simonize anybody ? rzage
