Maybe the mint should make every buyer complete a 100 question exam before they are allowed to purchase a mint product to ensure the buyer is a true collector. ...with an interview. and vetting.

I pre-sold 6 of my 15 for way too cheap. By the time I had the coins in hand, I could have doubled what I was selling them for. But I honored my commitment. All of my buyers also honored their commitment with me, which was a pleasant surprise.

At this point, the dealer is just another middleman.

I understand everyone's frustration at trying and failing to get one of these. But your solutions seem to involve either (a) banning limited-mintage coins, or (b) prohibiting individuals from reselling coins they've purchased from the Mint. I see both of those as non-starters.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who just wanted to own this particular coin, and feel it's unfair that they have to pay extra. But I think much (if not most) of the uproar is from people upset about missing out on the windfall of paying $60 for a $1500 (apparently) coin.

If the Mint had made 30,000 of these and offered them itself at $1500 each, the resulting uproar would've been a lot louder than what we're hearing now. (As I understand it, they're legally prevented from doing so.)

If they'd made 30,000 without household order limits, the big dealers would've grabbed essentially all of them, and we'd be in the same situation we're in now, except more of the money would be going into those dealers' pockets (instead of individual "evil flippers").

If the Mint had said these would be minted to order, they would've probably sold more than the 1995-W mintage, but I'll bet not much more, and there would've been little attention paid to the issue.

Just for a change of conversation (its not related...but you'll like it)...I have to relate this "event". I don't know whether to laugh, cry, scream or what. A friend of my told me one of his co-workers was cleaning out a grandparents attic, and came upon a box with a great-grandparent name on it. Inside the box was another smaller box, sealed shut, and when opened...they discovered them to be Morgan Dollars. They had to google the coin cuz none of them knew what they were. To make a long story short, get this, they took the coins to the bank and turned them in - apparently the bank forked over $1/coin. I had no idea how to respond/react; just wondering if a 1893-S was among them - talk about a payday! Maybe someday I'll find my box of Morgans!

And maybe we’ll hear one day from the coin hunter who came to the bank, asked “Whatcha got?” and walked out with Morgans he got for a buck each.

My "uproar" is about how the amoral flippers, etc. try to justify their behavior. I have no interest in this garbage from the mint precisely because of the behavior of everyone involved in mint products such as this crap. The mint should be in the business of making minting money. Not novelties. Not reasons for a bunch of idiots to rape each other silly.

Without the buyer being willing to pay the crazy amount there would be no Market. You can't regulate what people are willing to pay for something.

I think that is his point, if there are buyers at $1000 then there are certainly buyers at $69.95.

I collected all the ASE's for 30 years. It started getting so out of hand with the unlimited releases that I stopped collecting them about 5 yrs ago.

I know many collectors like me who got fed up and did the same.

Finally the mint issued this 2019 S yadda yadda yadda. I scored and got one.

I just sold it this weekend. First time in 51 years of collecting that I ever sold any coin.
I feel vindicated. All the crappy proof sets I've got dating back to the early '70's that are worthless prompted me to cash out on this one.

I will return to abstaining from future releases when they are unlimited or 150,000+.

This coin is a lesson in life. However, the only reason they were limited to making 30,000 coins is that there were 30,000 expensive planchets left over after the Pride of Two Nations project.

Anyway, they decided to do something with them, which was to Piss off as many mint customers as they could by trying to make use of these thirty pieces, Er, I mean 30,000 pieces of silver that were laying around with no use for them. I payed $750 for mine, and I'm OK with that. I was amazed that the college student from whom I purchased my coin on ebay actually shipped me the coin that I won on an auction listing, when at the time coins were already bringing over $900 consistently on ebay. Mine is at PCGS, and if I am lucky enough to get a signed one, I intend to send him ten % of the proceeds if I choose to sell. I'm at a quandry though, because I think I'll keep it if I do get one. Plus, I'm very lucky, so I'm sure that it will be #1 (cough cough)

So bottom line, you're just disgusted and PO'd at everyone who was fortunate enough to score one.

I started really disliking him when he bragged on HSN about buying up all of the kid Rocketship sets a few months ago. The idea that he scooped up enough of the ASE's to get almost 1000 slabbed at PF70 is the icing on the cake for me. I REALLY REALLY wanted to get one for my husband for Christmas and was online at straight up noon and was able to put it in my basket and then the site crashed for me. I'm done with the US MINT. After years of being a loyalty customer, to get shut out by bots and people like Mike Mezack is just a bridge too far for me.

I think the folks that say you folks are just upset that you didn't get one and just get over it just don't understand and are trying normalize and rationalize the behavior. The mint makes these for collectors (or so they say)...they don't make them so people can profit from for no reason. At least in the past the middlemen, the dealers, actually provided a service for their mark-up. Tell me what kind of service was provided that warrants marking up a product from $69.95 to anything over $100 much less $1,000? IMHO.

The market sets the price, not the seller. If someone wants to buy but they are not willing to pay the asking price they move on. If that's the consensus of all the buyers in the market then the price drops. Like virtually every other mint offering in the last 50 years.

Damn you're all still salty over a month-old release. I heard Supreme is making more box logo hoodies this season go try reselling those.
