You see the page off the usmint site about the $100,000 exchange going on in DC? Check out this LINK and you'll know where 2 million of the 2005 nickels will be tomorrow As I said in another post, don't be surprised if you start seeing "Capitol Hill" or "National Nickel Exchange" rolls being sold on ebay soon.
Made contact witht the Mint sites web page at about 10:05 AM (MST) and had no problem making the purchase. Had completed the business by 10:10 , printed my sales sheet and signed off. Lucky I guess.
From what I have read, 95 million of them were shipped to the Federal Reserve banks last week. Now all ya gotta do is find a bank that has them.
I ordered my Bison nickels from the Mint on 02/28/05 just as they were becoming available. I requested "expedited" delivery and, guess what? ... They arrived this morning! So "BRAVO" for the Mint! I think almost everyone will be pleased with the design. The reverse with the Bison is especially nice. In person, the detail is so much crisper than the pictures have shown. I think this is going to be one coin we're not going to see much in circulation. It's SO different than what many people are used to, I believe they're going to sock them away.
I’m not a big fan of nickels, but this Westward series looks great. It is a fantastic opportunity: buy a couple rolls from the mint, and for less than 12 cents (a little more if you want the Mint to ship them to you (if you’re too lazy to drive over and pick them up ) or 5 cents if you can get a roll from your bank, another 45 cents to put them in an Air-Tite) a coin you can pass these out to family and friends, both as a small token to brighten their day and as a seed to stir any budding interest in numismatics.
Bacchus, My sentiments exactly!!!! I've just ordered three P/D sets and I plan do exactly what you said.. I already have a plan to give the students (approx. 60) in the 2nd grade classes at my church school each one !!!
With regard to difficulties of ordering on-line, I wonder if the collectors' computers might play a role. In the past, I struggled considerably, but not in the past few days when i ordered the nickels and the 2005 proof sets. My struggles last year were while using a five-year-old Mac, using dial-up. I now have a new PC with high speed cable. I think ordering on-line has been faster than by telephone. Probably took under two minutes to order the proof sets. About the same for the nickels.
I just placed my order, what do you think the chance of seeing these new nickels in circulation? , b4 3/20/05 Pete
I think you will be lucky to see any in circulation AT ALL and if you do it will be one now and then just as the nickels last year! 3/20/05 NOT A CHANCE! Guess we will have to count the days and see how right or wrong I was! Let me know!
My order for the new nickels arrived today and they are better than I expected. The obverse takes a little getting used to, and the reverse is not as good as the original, but all in all they are certainly quite pleasing. I hope everyone gets their orders as promptly as I did.
My shipping status shows the nickels were sent to the shipping partner in Bolingbrook, IL on March 2nd, but have yet to leave there....I can drive there in just a little over an hour and it's been five days!!!!
This sounds like a good idea for a contest. The first one who finds one of the new Buffalo nickels in circulation wins 'x'. Can't be purchased from a bank or the mint, just those that are received back in change or from vending machine, etc. I can't believe that if they are being sent to the Fed. Reserve Banks that they won't be found in circulation soon.
Strictly a matter of business! If you are an armored car service and someone offers you $2.25 per roll and the banks only pay $2.00 per roll.....Where would you deliver the nickel rolls to? Like it or not there is money to be made on new coinage and everyone involved knows that so it will take quite some time for "extras" to find there way to banks. How did you think dealers get them so quickly? I know as I order every new statehood quarter and now, this new nickel, through that unheard of network and the prices are far cheaper than buying from the Mint! Quite honestly I am expecting 300 rolls of these nickels in the next two weeks as I order for family, friends, co-workers and other collectors and they have NOT let me down yet!
