This is probably the first time it happens, I forgot I had a bid I placed several weeks ago on a lot. And just now saw that I surprisingly won it at the opening bid. This is perhaps not what you're used to see me go for, but as I intend to get as many variations in the RRC 53/2 series as possible, a high grade fourrée felt like a must. And this is a very attractive example with almost full plating remaining. Anonymous. Fourrée Denarius (19.5mm, 3.42 g). Struck after 211 BC. Uncertain mint. Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma right; X (mark of value) to left. Reverse: The Dioscuri, each holding spear, on horseback right; two stars above; ROMA in linear frame. Reference: Crawford 53/2 (copying type).
That's a lovely coin and I'm happy that you acquired it for a good price. I've bid on coins and forgot about it only to be pleasantly surprised by an invoice. There's a certain happy birthday feeling about that!
Fourrées are cheap and fun. And given your interest in 53/2 I agree it was a must! Much of the core of this fourrée is corroded away leaving just the foil in places.
