Q. Do you buy high end cause it's a good deal or because you are looking for that special coin to fill in a blank in your collection? I'm trying to figure out if I'm different or is everybody like me in this buying frenzy!
I collect for the sake of collecting, and not as much value. That said, higher graded coins are preferable to me when I have a single example of a coin because I can see their beauty and all the detail. However, I don't find the need to have a complete set of all very high graded coins... circulation quality sets work for me.
Hi, we meet again. I buy high end coins if that is what I need for a particular collection. As example, my Lincoln wheat cent collection covers 1906 through1958. The coins from 1934 on are uncirculated and proofs if need be. On the other hand, the first section 1909 through 1933/34 is a lower-end collection because I know I cannot afford to fill it consistently with very expensive uncirculated coins. My standard for the earlier coins has to be different. For the most part I get VF-EX-AU, and all in brown. I think the early wheat pages make a better impression when the grades and colors are similar. This idea is working rather nicely for my Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels too. Just sit back, do research about the coins you would like to collect and determine whether or not you will be able to afford the coins in the grade and condition you prefer. When my grand daughter is helping me go through coins she now realizes that the shiniest coin is not always the best coin to obtain. hope this helps a little bit. jeankay
I only buy coins for the value. I don't collect coins to have a set anymore. I buy every gold and high end silver I can that is slabbed. I have picked up many proof 70 silver eagles that I seem to always find at bankruptcy auctions. To me that's good fun. :hail:
Okay... bumble brain... and to think I actually picked up my album to look in it. Think about the 1907 and 1908. Oh? I haven't told you about them. Another mistake about to happen... ha time to leave and go to sleep. jeankay
