In 2006 redbook and many websites the mintages for Alabama centennial 2*2 half was 6006 and mintage for plain version was 59038. While the Missouri centennial 2*4 mintage was listed as 5000 and 15428 for the plain version. The 2008 redbook have different mintage for those coins. Both Missouri half's mintages are now around 10000 and Alabama's mintage is now 15014 and 49038 Why? Was it typo in the previous redbooks?

maybe they found a hoard i hope the prices for those things drop. i like my classic commes in high grades for cheap
Actually the 2009 redbook have the different mintages, not sure about 2008 redbook. The mintages for 2*2 and 2*4 went up and the regular versions went down. Now the Missouri 2*4 and Alabama 2*2 are not so rare any more, while plain Missouri became more rare.
Just for accuracy: The Missouri #'s did change, from the 2006 numbers, in 2008, and are the same in 2009. The Alabama #'s only changed in 2009. Good question.
I asked Ken Bressett about the changes in mintages and he said: "These changes in the commemorative coinage mintage are a result of some research by Q. David Bowers. I believe the new numbers are correct. So, I guess that we all learn something new every day. [including my learning how to spell.]
In David Bower's 2008 "A guide book of US commemorative" book, he estimated the distribution of Alabama 2*2 at 30,000 and plain at 35,000 and Missouri 2*4 at 9000 and plain at 11,400. I guess it does make sense, since the graded population for both Missouri and Alabama types are similar.
