Back in the early 60's, my uncle put together a set of Lincoln's he calls his streak board. I'm trying to determine if what is called a woodie in here is what we call a streak or goiter variety. Several of my uncles 40+ yr old 2x2's have "goiter" variiety written on them. It's a beautiful set that he's given to my father, other than the 14 D imost are xf/au. The set's been shown to a couple of long time dealers, but the term "woodie" didn't come up in conversation.

If memory serves me correct, the "goiter" variety was due to a die chip and made Abe look like he had a goiter. That is not a woody.

Since you are not giving us any pics to go by, go to my profile and look at my albums. There is a whole album called "Woody's" or link here http://www.cointalk.org/album.php?albumid=10

Ok. Thanks. There were three or four 2x2's, all very old with "goiter variety" written on them, and the same streaked appearance. Apparently I drew the wrong conclusion.

So a set like this from 1909-1933 is fairly desirable. According to the diagnostics, the 22 is a wr. It also has the least amount of grain or streak. Just a hint thru the obverse. I'm going home for the 4th, I'll try and figure out how to take and post some pics.

I give. What is wr.? Regardless, if you have a 22 plain, it is worth more than a couple cents.

Most wood grained coins are actually LESS marketable then the standard coin. Obviously, there are exceptions to this. There are some coins were it is an asset and there are some collector who specifically look for the wood grain.
