OK, so yesterday I bought my "keeper" pile from my bank job. I got a bunch of $1s (20 or so) which I had been saving for the last few weeks. For the $1s, my rule is I set aside every star note and any note that is older than 1993 (so 1988A or older...unless its really bad). So, I got a handful of stars and older notes (including a 1969D).

Anyway, when I got home I went through them and I found a couple "common" $1 star notes, one was a series 2003 Chicago and the other a series 2003 New York. I have about 20 '03 Chicago star notes (high printing of slightly over 10 million) and probably 5 or 6 of the NY star notes (they printed about 5 million of those), so at first glance...they were pretty common finds for me.

Then, I looked closer. The "common" NY star run was the third printing run - from B6400001* through B11520000*, a printing of 5,120,000 notes. But, mine was serial B03438111*...that note came from the second run, a run of 320,000 notes!!!

The Chicago note was similar. The "common" Chicago run is the first run of star notes...series up to G09600000*. The note I found is serial G09715069* which comes from the second printing run...a run of 640,000 notes!!!

So, I'm pretty happy with my finds even though both are pretty circulated. Can't complain, I got them for face value. Here are the pics:

    RichieB, don't forget poor series 1993! ;)

    Nice short run stars, BTW.

    Cool RichieB16.

Now can I ask you what you look for in singles BESIDES stars and 1995 or earlier notes?

You may have goodies you don't even know about.

I don't really look for anything honestly. I know there are various errors, web notes, and what not...but I just don't have time. I do this at my job while I'm counting deposits, I check the serials and signatures really quickly. If I see a star or a sig that I recognize as old, I set it aside. I really don't have time to do anything else.

Save the stars and anything 1995 or earlier. You can check them at home can't you?

You are in a postion where you may actually still spot a good web note, 295 or even (gasp) 129 error. Many of those will blow a star note (even a low printed run) out of the water.

I do save those notes and bring them home. But, I don't check for radars or anything at work. Just not time. But, none of the notes that I got yet are 295 errors or web notes or anything cool like that.
