I've seen and own several woodies. Sometimes it's coarse sometimes it is fine. Sometimes they are just plain weird like my 1916 below. Wear can affect the look of wood grain as well. Very fine grain on the obverse. Rougher grain at the top of the reverse. And rough chunky grain on the central reverse.
