I wonder if it is a permanent ban or a temporary ban?

As far as I know someone’s profile will still show as unavailable even if the ban is temporary. Was there a contentious thread that I missed somewhere?

Our participation from people posting anything other than ID and authenticity threads is already way down lately. I definitely don’t like to see active contributors get the axe.

I've just purchased a coin from him and was about to post on this thread but I'll wait and see what happens...
Is it common practise on this forum to not notify the members when another member is banned!? Or do they just simply disappear!?...I also don't remember seeing a controversial thread at least here on the ancient section?....All seems a bit strange and a person who will be missed on this forum....

The moderators of this forum won't always tell the actual banned member why they're banned, let alone notify the rest of us.

Ken will be missed....HUGELY! - Ken has always been there to answer questions; provide guidance; and, freely add his input on a number of issues.

I hope someone reaches out to Ken to see what is going on. The type of behavior that it takes to get banned on this forum is not what I would expect from him.

I do not believe he was banned. I seem to remember he got fed up with some of the bickering a few months ago and said he didn't join CT for that kind of behavior. I may have him mixed up with someone else, but that is what I recall.

Bing - I sure hope you're correct on that. If so, maybe he'll decide to come home to roost on our forum once again......Thing very positive - Will guarded optimism.

It's a true pity that Ken's account on CT has been disabled. From here and from a couple of coin shows I know him as a knowledgeable coin dealer, passionate collector, and perfectly polite, cheerful, and all-around pleasant person. It would be most astounding to me if this forum had a good reason to ban him! Hopefully, Ken will return soon.

In addition to my new Severus Alexander I won in the Ken Dorney Auction, here's my current S. Alexander...

    Alexander Severus denarius (1).jpg

And I also have a Maximinus Trax who's a dead ringer for Severus Alexander.

I was in touch with Ken earlier today. He was indeed banned, but he doesn't know why, nor does he know how long the ban will be for. The mods haven't communicated with him at all about it.

Surely it will just be temporary and we can welcome him back soon.

I have read on the forum from members who have received temporary bans that the CT mods send PMs to notify them. I don’t know how long they give the member to read the PM though before locking them out. Obviously, if they can’t log on they can’t read the message to see what type of ban they got.

The bans work on an accumulation of point or warnings or some such. I haven’t seen where Ken has had a history of rule infractions so I would be seriously surprised if it was permanent. My guess is two weeks.

    Ugh... that's a bummer.

CT is great but has a history of banning some great members of the community for getting a bit loose with words. There needs to be a wider margin between a "time-out" warning and a permanent ban. There's a few I can thing of, Ken included, that are valuable posters that should be allowed back.

    Hopefully this is a timeout...

@Sallent......Nice coin it was one that I nearly bid on...These big Roman bronzes are starting to really appeal to me.....
@Edessa......Lovely coin, my star sign is Capricorn and put a lowball on this one, glad you won it...
I have a few coins on layaway with Ken at the moment and one that should arrive in the next few days, a first for me......Great guy to deal with!....Will post them soon if I've not been banned after this post:nailbiting:

Being quite new here and a teacher am I reading this correctly?!
You receive a 'sad faced sticker':( every time you cross the line (Whatever that might be!), and a super 'smiley faced sticker':D if your a good boy!...But you dont actually get to see your 'STICKER REPORT'.....Until one day you arrive at school and your not allowed in!......OOh no maybe I'll get a :( sticker for this post :nailbiting:...But guess I'll never know?...

I recall from having gone through this with another (mostly) beloved member before that CT does notify members of the banning/deactivation. They do it by email. This particular member had a typo in the email he signed up with so he did not get the notification, which led to a flurry of other members writing to the mods.

    Hopefully Ken's ban is temporary.

Ken has never been shy about pointing it out when someone posts pictures of fake coins or antiquities. (I liked that about him.) I hope it's not the case, but maybe someone got mad and vigorously complained.

I have my one and only "Owl" coming from Ken right now. My most expensive ancient purchase to date. It's because of Ken's history on CT that I trust I will get what I expect (quality for the price, authenticity). I hope he can show up again, soon.

Oops. I have to edit this: it wasn't from his auction, but from his V Coins store.

You are right. I do remember that now.... hmm. Then I honestly have no idea how so many people end up saying they don’t get notified. Perhaps the email goes to the spam folder or something.

The mods do tell you when you cross the line and get an infraction. It’s also usually pretty obvious as it most of the time it involves a mod erasing a bunch of stuff in a thread and then warning people not to continue what they are doing. I haven’t seen Ken involved in one of those deals and it doesn’t happen often on the ancient board... now those rowdy moderns on the other hand... :troll:
