This coin is slabbed. Not going to tell you the grading service or the grade, but will reveal it later. I'm sure some of you will be able to figure out the grading service just by the photo's.

What grade would you give it?

Keep in mind this photo is thru the plastic holder. Any white spots you see are not from the coin, but the fibers from the holder inside the slabb or the tissue I wiped it with. (one is on the E one the reverse)

The plastic holder has a scratch under the last 5 in 1855. I see maybe a pit mark under the E on the reverse.

This coin has lots of red in it, some minor discoloration, i dont see any corrosion.

Lighter pictures are with flash on, not autoflash.

I am going with AU55. The reverse looks better in my opinion based off the pictures. I would not be surprised if it was higher.

Good guess Mark. Actually the photos of the coin aren't that good I'll try to post one in the sunlight. My estimate going by pcgs standards would be MS-60 maybe MS-62. Unfortunately this coin is slabbed by NTC as a MS 66!!!! LOL!!! I know NTC grades high, however not that high. I would like to get this in a PCGS Slab and would be willing to accept a grade of MS 60. Should I send in in for a crossover in its slab or send it in raw?

Personally I would send it in raw. I do not see a problem with the coin, but I am not an expert based off pictures.

My father is 2 for 4 in crossovers from NTC. Out of the 2 morgans I thought one was cleaned, but the other still looked nice to me.

I'm hoping they will see the inflated grade of the NTC slab and drop it by 2 or three grades and give me a MS 63. That would be best case scenario. Worried about a raw grade of much less.

Don't think they would take the resposibility of breaking it out of a slab .

PCGS will accept it slabbed. Check out the FAQ's on their website.

At the same time they might just body bag it. I think they cover the grade and grade the coin through the holder. When you send it in in the holder I think you also have to give a minimum crossover grade - what would you put? I like raw because they would get the coin without any pre-judging because of a holder. In theory it should grade the same either way.
