Hello anyone that can help me, my father left me some coins as part of my inheritance but i dont know how much they are worth but i know there are gold and silver. If anyone knows about the National Historic Mint collection of Great American Presidents please let me know...
I have a bad feeling about this one. Most likely this is a private mint and the "coins" you have are not really coins at all. Rather they are most likely medals of unknown or questionable composition. The gold ones are almost certainly gold plated and the silver one are most likely silver plated. What lies below the gold plating is anyone's guess. The bad news is that medals of this sort have very, very little collector value. They may attract some interest from a few people but not from any knowledgeable coin collectors. Sorry.
WOW talk about shooting someones dreams down. but anyways I say just keep them as a sentimental memory of your loved one. they might not hold any numismatic value, but they will always make you remember him.
There are times in our lives where the true value of something is having that which belonged to someone we loved. Bruce.
National Historic Mint was a producer of so-called collectibles, similar to what the Franklin and Danbury mints put out. It does not appear to have a current website, so it is probably out of business. In the '80s they produced gold and silver plated medals which retailed in the $5-6 range. The most recent president included in the set (my guess would be Reagan or Ford) will pretty much date the set.
