There was a Ken Dorney Auction today. Did you participate? What did you win and which coins got away? Please feel free to share.

I bid on and won this one because I only had one sestertius in my collection, and sometimes one just won't do. It also looks like it has a lovely dark patina and it's a nice portrait of Severus Alexander. Plus one can never have too many Sol reverses. I freaking love Sol reverses.

Reverse: P M TR P XI COS III P P S C, Sol standing left raising hand and holding whip.

    Hi,

I bought 5 coins actually, even if I regret not buying the Carthage one and a greek silver one. I especially love the first one (a greek coin).

    Here's my results :

Nice pick-ups. Anyone know how you can get on the list for one of his auctions? I don't think I heard about this one. Or if I did I forgot.

There is an “auction listings” here on Coin Talk and if you are registered on Biddr, they will notify you MANY times a week about the upcoming auctions..

Well to be honest there are not many auctions from him. I think the last one was 6 months ago (maybe more) something like that. So you need to be really careful about that !!

And for the rest ocatarine is right :)

I landed two Severan dynasty coins. Excited to add them to my collection.

That’s strange. Are we sure he’s banned? I cannot tell by looking at his profile. Seems active currently.

If you do a search and start typing his name, it does not autofill. If you search for him in the members tab, he's not there. If you come across a post of his and click his avatar, the "Start a Conversation" link isn't there. All of this adds up to his account being deactivated. That's unfortunate :(.

I placed pre-bids on 9 different lots and won one (below). I know nothing about this coin beyond was what listed in the auction, I just thought it was a really interesting obverse:
    temp.jpg
    Thessaly, Gyrton, 340 - 330 BC
    AE Dichalkon, 19mm, 4.15 grams
Obverse: Bare male head of the hero Gyrton right, in front of and next to head and neck of bridled horse.
Reverse: Head of the nymph Gyrton left with hair in a roll and wearing pendant earring.
BCD Thessaly II 83.4 ex BCD Collection, with his tag.

I completely forgot about this auction. I think a lot went rather cheaply :(

But I couldn’t afford to bid anyway with my targets and rent coming up :( :(

Oh, I see now. Thanks for pointing that out. That really does stink. He’s always very helpful and pleasant. Hope he’s back soon.
