I went big for the holiday weekend and got 6 boxes of halves. For the first time I got Loomis wrapped rolls and nearly 2 boxes in and it's brutal, not even a 40%er. About 4 coins per roll have marks from other collectors on them and zero enders. Thinking I should just save the time and return the 4 boxes still wrapped at my dump bank and not have to feed them into the coin counter. Are Loomis wrapped halves usually tough and have you ever punted on part of an order?
I can't even get half dollars where I'm at unless someone drops them off. Nobody will order them. Around here it's usually N.F. String and son on the cents and smaller denominations. I DETEST when people mark the half dollars. D E T E S T~! Why the heck do you have to do this. Not everyone hunts for what you do and if you mark up coins to make it easier for you, you may be taking away from someone else. Quit being a tool. I wouldn't take them back. Search for Varieties and see if you get lucky with the silver. Just don't mark them up!
Marked coins don't bother me. I've found silver right next to marked coins in rolls. They are only marking the junk clad anyway. Plus, most of the marks come off with acetone.
I hate those marks too Bambam, I never have marked any coins. I probably should search them Islander, I've seen a few coins close to having nice toning that are in there and a few NIFCs.
I get that they come off with acetone but there is no need to do it. None. The little kid searching to fill his blue whitman book that was given used to him doesn't need to have that crap on a coin that may be good for his book.
The lady at the bank who ordered these was super nice, said to let her know if I want more and that they came from The Fed. Any chance The Fed/Loomis wrapped rolls go through a machine that separates the silver?
The fed doesn't wrap coins. The Mint sends them to companies such as loomis to wrap and distribute. Its been put out there before that people think they cull silver. Who knows. Could just be a conspiracy theory. There are a lot of people out there with tin foil hats!
If they take the silver out, how do all of these people find silver coin roll hunting? Are they just making it up? Crazy!
I have only marked a few thousand dollars worth of absolute junk halves over my 6 years of searching. Just to see if I get them back. So far I have never seen a single one back. If you ever run into a coin with a "FF" on it, that's mine and I apologize
Loomis is all I know since you have to be lucky to get actual customer wrapped rolls of halves as everyone is looking for them. I know exactly how you feel but i would always wonder if I left something. Being a collector and not a silver hoarder I go through them all. It was a couple boxes ago that I was down to the last 3 rolls finding nothing but 70s thru 90s with a sprinkling of 2000s. Then I found a Franklin and then in the very last roll another Franklin. Thrilling for me and they look nice added to my collection. You just never know til you look!!
If you see both ends of all the roll are new 2018s, return the whole box. Don't open the rolls. Odds are a Loomis dumped a whole bag of 2018s into their wrapper.
