It does look very silvery, but nickles tend to be like that. In 1823 a German competition was held to perfect the production process: the goal was to develop an alloy that possessed the closest visual similarity to silver. The brothers Henniger in Berlin and Ernst August Geitner in Schneeberg independently achieved this goal. The manufacturer Berndorf named the trademark brand Alpacca, which became widely known in northern Europe for nickel silver. In 1830 the German process of manufacture was introduced into England, while exports of paktong from China gradually stopped. In 1832, a form of German silver was also developed

A local jeweler could weigh it but...looks ground found then silver polished.

Silver thermal conductivity test, two coins, subject and base line. both room temperature each placed on an ice cube, silver will melt through faster???

What if you just bit the bullet and sent it to pcgs, could they confirm?

It's polished. War nickels are the same color as regular nickels when they're uncirculated, but they tone to that ugly green color we're used to seeing. Polish them or dip them, and they're back to this color.

Your coin has obvious surface issues. I'll bet someone either polished it or chemically cleaned it.

Weight won't do it, unless it's significantly heavier than 5 grams, which is extremely unlikely. An XRF analyzer would, but those are still expensive enough (more than $10000) that it can be hard to get the use of one.

Specific gravity would be a good test. A copper nickel coin has a SG of 8.92 a war nickel is 9.25 to 9.32. If the silver contentwas higher the SG will be as well.
