    Hello fellow CT friends,
I would be glad to have your grade opinions and attribution comments on these large cents. Purchased in Dallas around 1990 on a vacation trip there (i still remember the heat!)

    Thank you all,
    Eduard

I would give them both a MS 63. Anything over that I would have to see them in hand. Both look extremely nice for the coin. I really like the 1838 with some light reds coming through the brown tone.

Well the 57 is easy. It's a large date so that makes it an N-1.

    I think the 1838 is an N-6.

Those are two stunning large cents, Eduard -- particularly that '38. Thank you for sharing...Mike

p.s. TPG Grade: '38 -> 65 RB; '57 -> 65 BN (although the apparent lack of luster does concern me a bit).

Very nice coins. I am going to say MS63 - not sure about rb or not. The 57 I will say 64bn, but like leadfoot the brown looks flat to me and it could just be the picture.

    Again very nice coins!

Nice to see a little original mint red poking out on that '38 ! Great coin.

Hard to say whether it's weak strike or wear, but the '38 seems to show a little missing detail in the top waves of Libbie's hair and the forehead curls. Maybe it's a strong AU, maybe it's MS. Great coin regardless. Congrats, Eduard ! Nice stuff as always.

Re: Dallas heat... try Arizona summers ! I just got done with 16 days at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. 105 - 110 degF every day ! whoooooooWEE that's hot. Believe it or not, it's possible to find plenty of shade and cool.

I'm almost certain it's a weak strike. If it were wear, I'd not expect such booming luster....Mike

    p.s. welcome back Ricky! :)

Thanks, bro ! Great to be back.

Yes, it has fabulous luster and color. Those obverse denticles on the left side do point to a weak strike...

Try again. ;) The weak dentils are more a result of die crumbling, from what I understand.

    p.s. but I'm not 100% certain.

Ya know, on these late date large cents, one can occasionally find a full red RD. But they are usually a little spotty, and not always attractive.

I think I prefer the RBs or even a BN lite that has a little red shining through. Nice even color with a hint of red.

    Very stylish, Eduard.
