As some of you may know, I just returned from an academic conference in Montreal. As any dedicated numismatist would do, I checked out some local coin shops. Without any real pointers from locals ahead of time, I just followed what I could find on google and went from there. This resulted in a lot of dead ends. I did explore a coin shop that was located on the top floor of a shopping mall. Their inventory mainly was modern RCM products, supplies, publications, and a handful of older Canadian coins. Although the owner was super friendly, he did not have the type of coins I collect. He handed me a piece of paper (in french) and told me that I might be able to find what I am looking for at the coin show occurring that weekend.

I found a few hours between various meetings and talks to attend the show. Sadly, I was unable to find anything extraordinary for my collection. I did get to check out some beautiful Canadain coins and found myself super tempted to restart my Canadian large cent collection. I resisted and almost left the show empty-handed. There was one table that was always busy that intrigued me. Finally, on my third lap around the floor, a spot cleared up, and I wiggled my way through the crowd. Although he didn't exactly have what I wanted, I could not resist searching through his "junk trays". In the process, I found this little treasure. Although not particularly valuable or rare, I could not pass it up for $12 (US). I had to have a little souvenir from my first ever international coin show!

I’m out of Mississippi. Needless to say, the temperature paired with the wind was a bit harsh to adjust to. Luckily, the city is mostly connected underground.

That's a great little medal. I'd definitely scoop that up out of a junk bin.

I love junk bins - my local dealer throws some pretty odd stuff in his, including for some reason, a lot of Canadian medals (we're in the USA Midwest). Here are a couple I got recently along with a massive two-penny token from Norwich, England, c. 1814 and a little ancient Greek, which is rather scarce, if cruddy (attribution below):
