1964 D Washington Quarter filled mint mark. Input?

I recently came upon this 1964 D Washington in regular circulation. Upon scanning it I noticed that the inside of the mint mark appears to be filled. Its not in the best shape but I was wondering if anyone has any insight on the authenticity, grade, and impact on value that this defect may have on this coin. Thanks a bunch.

    Welcome to CT!

Nice circulation find. This coin has seen some circulating. Not sure about this particular condition with the mint mark. Not sure it couldn't be post mint damage.

No doubt someone will come along that will have the low down on this one.

    Nice circulating silver find.

Hello JRankin and welcome to CT. This coin is called a Washington Quarter and the fill mint make is common. It is cause by grease filling the mint mark which does not allow the mint mark to stamp. As far as the grade I would say G may be VG because the hair line above Washington is still visible but the feather on the eagle's breast are not.

    Thanks guys

My thanks to both of you guys for your input. I have been a teller at a bank for about 8 months now and I've been keeping my eyes open for anything of interest. I actually picked up two 1887 Morgans last week from a deposit that I found out were MS-60!! Couldnt believe that someone got rid of them for face value. Again thanks, and if anyone else has comments please let me know.

Andy21us's answer is completely wrong in this case. But his confusion is probably related to imprecise terminology.

A "filled" mintmark such as Andy21us mentions results in the whole mintmark being partially or completely missing.

What JRankin05 has would more properly be called a "clogged" mintmark and it is caused by the part of the die that creates the center of the D having chipped off and completely broken away from the die. So if you looked at the die instead seeing a reversed D sunken into the die, you would just see a hole which when it strikes the coin just leaves a lump. And that is exactly what we see on JRankin05's coin. So you have a clogged D from a chipped die, which unfortunately has no premium value.

To have a nickel that has a d mint Mark that is completely filled their is no center just a d glob of die would this be the grease filled and are they worthless in value?
