Has anyone ever bought, or considered buying, any coins graded by National Numismatic Certification? Also, Teletrade has recently had some NumisTrust (NTC) coins up for bid. If so, did the coins come close to the grades on the slabs of either of these services? I know they're both valued much less than the "big four"- i.e., PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG, at least in various auctions I've followed.

Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts!

I personally would go for a SEGS and maybe even a PCI coin before I'd even consider NTC.

As a preface, my experience is nearfly exclusively with Lincolns. NNC I find to be useless. I have seen a 45, but was really 15, a 67 that was really 63, etc. BTW, they are not independant TPG, but a company run by a dealer (centsles on eBay).
Personally, I have had good luck with NTC. They are an independant TPG and, yes, they do over grade. However, people are so afraid of the non standard TPG's that I find NTC slabs dirt cheap for some nice coins. As a for instance, I have a 1941-D MS67 by NGC and a MS68 by NTC. I find the NTC to be the better coin by a fair amount.

In honesty, others on this site have had worse luck than I with NTC. If you do a search for NTC, you will find more than one thread on this subject. As is said often, if you buy the coin and not the slab, who cares what the company name is.

Yes, and I immediately cracked them out just like I do 99% of other slabbed stuff I purchase. Be that the NNC, NTC, NGC, ANACS, or PCGS. They serve no purpose at all to me other than as plastic protective encasement and these (Snap Plastic Holders) I can purchase at Hobby Lobby in town. I can put my grade, notes, and attribution on the paper flip inside and everyone is happy. :D

No problem at all buying them, as long as you know how to grade, see the coins in hand (or have return priviledge, but then you may be on the hook for S/H fees), and buy them at the appropriate level. And I'd say the same thing for any of the grading services. :)

NTC slabs are okay for circulated coins in my opinion. The only thing to watch out for is that a lot of coins in NTC slabs appear to be cleaned and might have been body-bagged by other grading services.

    Exactly!!

I purchased a 1954-D Franklin (MS65 NTC). This coin is so not a MS65. MS63 maybe but no wear near a 65. I keep it intacked as a teaching tool to show new collectors I meet. These off the wall grading services can work to your advantage if the parties trading them understand the less then crediable slabbers intentions.
I only recognize PCGS, NGC, ANAC, and ICG to some degree. Yet I truly dislike slabbed coins. I say set them free!!! I like to be able to get my hands on the coin to evaluate with my loop. Slabs get scratched and fuggly.
