Does anyone know what the picture is of on the back of the 2000 50-Ore coin?

My Krause book lists it as simply as a 'stylized animal'.

    BTW...welcome!

If you have one, I'd like to see a picture. A "stylized animal" could be a lot of different things. It might be fun to see what everyone here thinks it is :D

The obverse is the portrait of King Harald V,who succeeded his very popular father,King Olav V in 1991.

I kind of think it looks like some sort of gazelle.

    I hope this works...

I think it might be a stylized reindeer. Although reindeer are most commonly associated with Finland, they do "circulate" in northern Norway as well. (For some reason, they don't respect the human borders between Finland, Sweden, and Norway.)

    Alt for Norge!

    Hi.

The "reindeer" on the coin is an old ornament found on one of the very old churches we have here in Norway.

So it's more like ancient art than a reindeer.

I do not know from wich church the ornament is from, but ornaments like this appears on all of the old churches in Norway
