    Hello all,

I'm putting together a set of barber dimes, quarters and halves. Last fall I realized that with morgans and LS dimes I already have, when I finish the barbers I'll have accumulated approx. 50% of the silver issued by the New Orleans mint. Has anyone ever put together a full set of New Orleans silver? Tonite I was bored, so I mapped out dates and dollars in excel. Budget constraints render this to be a multi-year project. There doesn't appear to be any super stoppers. The 1860 dime is tough and 1849 quarter appears so. I don't own any seated dollars and know only what I've read. Any thoughts/advice?

    Thanx,

100 years of Cub angst to disappear in 2008.

The unique 1851-o dollar is a pretty solid stopper. I had the opportunity to inspect this coin in the past year and it is a really interesting issue.

I imagine its next owner will pay somewhere in the $500k - $1 million range, talk about budget stretching!

I should have stipulated circulation strikes. One of the 11 examples of the 1838 half would also stretch a budget.

The 1851-O was a circulation strike. Did you mean something else ?

ANACS graded it PF-62. Coinfacts lists it as a proof. I reiterate, I don't know a great deal about seated dollars. Coinfacts also gives a couple possible scenarios as how it came to be, but I'm sure you are aware of these.

I should have read the post more closely. Since there are no 1851-O dollars, other than that 1 Proof which is an anomaly, I assumed you were talking about the gold dollars. They were circulation strikes.

Not to mention the 1838-O bust half. only 20 or so minted. For me, that would be a stopper!
