OK, I have never really collected Franklin's too seriously...but I have picked up a few over the years. As a result, I don't know how to grade them that well. Anyway, if you read another of my threads...I was going through $500 of rolled halves and this one popped out of one of them...a 1963-D Franklin. I know this isn't a rare coin (if memory serves me, it was the highest minted Franklin or close to it) but its a pretty cool circulation find. The coin has a lot of luster and I was wondering what grade you would assign to it. Thanks.
Very nice coin to find in circulation. I have agree with the other replies and give it an AU. Given there where over 22 mil. produced, there should be an abundance of UNC examples to be had. Save this one for circulated sets or series, its a nice looking coin. Great Find and Keep on Collecting!!! Allen
Where's the wear you guys are seeing? I see discoloration, but it doesn't look like wear. But, I could (and probably am) wrong on this. So I'll say if it's not wear, than MS-62. If that's wear, AU-53. (I'll just leave it y'all experts, I'm just stabbing in the dark a bit here. ) Phoenix
Check the areas around Franklin's lower jaw and neck. His coat label shows some wear. The reverse shows center bell contact, some contamination contact as well. With out coin in hand its hard to judge contact mark from bag marks, but this coin shows many contacts. In any case, I don't need a great pic of this coin to see that it still retains great luster, typical of this years production. Allen
I do agree there is some wear but a lot or remaining luster. I was thinking it would grade in the AU range...but not being an expert with these, I wasn't sure.
AU-55 , nice find . It's also about a year after they finally reworked the hub , thus the nice detail . rzage
