Found this penny in my change today and it's got a raised bump on it... but it's weird because the obverse has no intention or and anything that could cause this to happen to the reverse side of the coin.. anyone might know what caused this? .. if you can see it, I know my pictures suck
It's the best I got to work with. Any further and you can't see what I'm talking about. And I don't have a tripod or anything else I can use to prop up the coin... i put a magnifying glass to my camera in order to get the best pictures I can... I really don't have much to work with.
Well, your camera is either too far away, or too close, giving us a blurry shot. I'm 99% sure it's zinc rot, but thought it would be best if you provided better photos. If you want to search for errors, you need to first learn about them; otherwise, everything will look like an error. Here's a great resource: www.error-ref.com
Thank you, but I really don't have the time to go through and study every error lol.. I barely have time to look at my coins. But thank you.. it might take me 6 months to know all the errors in that reference guide but I'll look. and yea, the best pic I could have got was the closest one, which is the 1st one..
If you can learn all the errors in error-ref in only 6 months, that would be phenomenal. Many on here have been doing this for decades and are still learning. The point is, using the reference links to start learning about errors and the minting process in your own. When you find an unusual coin, the first thing you should do is try to determine if it could have left the mint in that condition. Book marking the reference sites people give you, and looking at them is a great way to learn. Holding out a handful of coins and asking "Is this an error?" , gets old after a while, and you won't learn much. You want to get to the point where you are asking "i think this may be xxxxx error because ..... Do you agree" even if you're completely wrong most experienced members will see you're trying to learn and will provide feedback. If you still don't have the time to learn, you can expect that members will eventually not have the time to answer your questions. Hope this helps.
