A friend brought these over tonight. He found them in an old glove in a old building he's working in. I figured they have to be off some significance. The quarters are all 1964 and nickels are all 1936. I know they are all silver and in really good condition. I thought maybe you all could tell us something about this?
The quarters are both 1928, of course. I wonder if you meant "pre-1964" quarters, @AnitaMore? The condition makes them worth a bit over melt (some folks pay a bit more for SLQs). The value of the nickels, even though two are S mints, isn't going to be much due to the condition (common, circulated). They are the type that are used in jewelry. Steve
Oh, I forgot to mention that the clue about the metallic composition for the nickels is in the name: "nickel." Only the "War Nickels" 1942-1945 with the large mint mark on the top of the dome had silver in them, 35%. Your copy of the "Red Book" will give you the answers to questions like these (I suspect some of your friends and neighbors will be bringing you coins if they know you collect). If you don't have a copy even an edition that is a couple of years old will cost you almost nothing and will be valuable for the information, not the pricing, though, which are retail prices. Steve
All are worth the junk value of silver. I can't see the dates clearly so I can't be sure. I think the Quarters are worth more than junk but the Buffalo Nickels, unless a good date, are worth about a quarter each. Nice find.
Actually there are 3 1964 quarters as well. As for the nickels, you can't tell by the pic but one of them have the "third leg". Would that up anything? And thanks for the tip- Red Book will be on my list!
