well I was randomly sorting out my change and came across a 1950 lincoln penny and I was curious about it looked it up and found there are 2 types one being

1950 Lincoln Cent Proof 64 Red at a value of $99

    and

1950-D Lincoln Cent BU at a value of $1

now I don't tend to collect many modern coins so I know very little about what I have here. I'm assuming its the lesser of the two but would like to know how I could identify which I have:smile any useful resources or info would be helpful I'll see if I cannot get a picture or 2 up in a bit :p

Since you got it in circulation, the chances are 99.9999% that it is not proof. They use special dies to make those and they are usually a better strike that the business strike (your 1950-D). You can find several threads here discussing the particulars on how to see the difference. Since you found it in circulation, you have neither of the above. Prices you quoted are for uncirculated and full red Lincolns. Even if it were proof, it would be worth very little.

As an aside, a 1950 1C MS67 Red PCGS business strike) should get you over $3,000.

Chances are the wheat cents you'll find in circulation will be worth about 3 cents each.
