In a new lot of coins I got in yesterday, I got a 1944 Spanish Peseta. I just thought it was unique because other Pesetas from Spain at that time period have the King on it. I THINK that Spain was in a civil war at around the time. It is circulated, but not heavily, does anybody know what its worth?

    According to 2004 KM:
    VF - $.25
    XF - $5
    AU - $18

I have a number of them, but they are all worn enough to hardly qualify for VF. No shortage of
them - 150 mil minted, but I haven't seen many
    in decent condition.

CoinJoe2006,the 1944 1 Peseta coin from Spain has the portrait of Francisco Franco on it.He later restored the monarchy in 1947 with himself as Regent. The Spanish Civil War was between 1936 & 1939,which is when the Nazis first fought formally in war.Franco was titled the 'Caudillo',which is the Spanish equivilant of 'Fuhrer'.The monarchy was not
truely restored until 1975 when Franco died & the popular King Juan Carlos acceded to the throne of Spain.

I assure you that it DOES NOT have the portrait of anybody on it. However I do have others from 1947 which have Francisco Franco on them, but the 1944 doesn't.

    Hi,

The mintage of this coin is about 150M.
But It's difficult to find it in good conditions, because it circulated during several years (up to 1975).

The worth of this coin in the spanish market is higher than the WorldCoins says.

It would be more or less.
    VF $.35
    XF $21
    UNC $60

Regarding the spanish Peseta from 1947, its worth is higher in UNC.

Aidan, you are right on spanish history. I can't say the same of my knowledge of New Zealand History, I'll try to learn something about your country.

Alberto, you have an excellent command of the English language, but the same cannot be said for my command of the Spanish (Castilian) language,
which is very limited.I can read inscriptions in languages such as Spanish,Portuguese,German & Russian,as I can find clues to identify a coin.I have
difficulty identifying Middle Eastern countries' coins
unless they have an English inscription or a symbol
    that I am familiar with.
