    A very good East Coast dealer has a 1995-W PF70 listed at $17,250. The same dealer has a PF68 (that’s right, 68) for $2,490.

I am a bit disappointed with not getting this coin for my collection ( I am not a flipper)... but then I went to my closet and hugged my Pride of Two Nations Limited Edition set - love the one you are with. :)

Yeah, they had them for sale for about 30 seconds today. Congrats to those who got one this morning!

It's really important to remember why the 95-W price is doing what it's doing. It really is just normalizing again. It had been a coin that would sell for about what it does now as a PCGS 70, then out of no where one sold for 86k which obviously spiked the value of the rest of them. There never really was market support for that price range or even prices that high as one later that same year went for 50k and then 40k early the next year.

That massive outlier also obviously caused them to start hitting the market as many were happy to cash out of them after seeing such a wildly unexpected price on the high side.

As far as the 70 vs 70 for this new issue the 95 W will remain king. There's far fewer 70s of those than there will be for these. They had to survive in the wild generally for 5-10 years or more before grading as eagles really weren't being graded back then and the overall production quality was much lower. These will be going directly to the TPG in large numbers an the mint knows that people basically demand perfection on things like this.

Yup, I think I remember a CoinWeek article talking about that sale. You see even 1 for that price, and then someone buys one for $50K and they think they got a bargain !! :D

CLASSIC bubble mentality on the upside AND downside !

    Yup....

    Again, you nailed it.

Question to the most seasoned coin collectors here: Knowing that this coin can be considered as a "rare" coin due to the limited mintage...
1.Can it actually be considered rare?
    2. Value is driven by speculation first but the mintage amount also adds to that value. So based on this, the coin is reselling at a range between $500-$2000, depending if its certified or not and whats the PR (69,70). Now, there are some coin collectors that say that after the hype, the coin value will actually decrease which I tend to think otherwise due to the nature of the actual coin.
    3. Could the value of the coin reach to similar heights as the 1995 W proof or not?

I doubt it will reach the value of the 1995-W, even though the mintage is lower. I think a LOT more will be graded right away, and a lot more will be 70's, etc. I can see the value in the $500-$750 range as a landing point. My guess is it will spike for a few months, then settle down to that range.

Why do you doubt it even if the mintage is lower?

Now everyone is trying to get one, and they are selling from $500-$700 range. When those coins at that price end, people will start selling at a higher price, increasing the coin value, and when those prices end, it will continue rising is my opinion, but at what point should it level up?

My personal opinion is that silver eagles are kind of boring. I feel the popularity of them is down compared to in the past. I feel like the mint is trying to create new interest in them, but I suspect not as many people will pay up big for this one like they would the 1995. I also think there will be a ton more 70's of this one than the 1995, which would still make it rarer in a 70 grade.

When the 25th anniversary set sold out, they were going for around $1500. Now you can pick one up (OGP) for between $450-$550.

    $2500 for a raw one. I don't think so.

At this point the going rate on eBay looks to be $700 raw. A few still get listed at $600 or less, and those sell in minutes. I imagine there are more than a few people camping on the new BIN listings looking for these "bargains"; if you can buy at $600, you could flip it on eBay YOURSELF for a profit. For now.

I'm expecting the price not to go much higher, but I'm not sure it'll drop very quickly. Of course, I have almost no confidence in either prediction.

The mint is probably sorry it didn't keep the old dies and not deface most. 1922 no-D anyone, 1914D coming right up, hey , how about a 1914D wide doubled die ( easy peasy).
