1886 O Morgan grade input for grading tier & submission estimate?

I know and it's a great looking piece and I'm sure the OP will find it useful.

Plans are:
(1) under microscope later today to check more closely for cleaning;
(2) submit to NGC this weekend;
(3) I can post results once I have them, if anyone is interested

I'm intrigued by this one to see if it comes back any better than AU DETAILS....

 

Thanks for posting those pics! I've also studied various 1886 O Morgan AU58s & MS examples with Heritage's high-res pics (HA.com). It's the toning/aging/possible or probable cleaning on this one that has had me scratching my head a bit on exactly how to interpret it....

 

Perhaps you know this but...I'm assuming you intend to look for hairlines with your microscope. Yet a coin can be cleaned without leaving hairlines. A coin can be over dipped, resulting in too much of the luster being stripped, thus resulting in a "cleaned" coin. This one sort of has that appearance to me.

If you look at the obverse on Lady Liberty's cheek and again by the date you can see what appears to be a thumb or fingerprint. With the toning, the overall cleanness, a lack of Mint luster and two prints it would appear this coin has been cleaned and doctored so to speak. You have it in hand but we are looking at photos.

 

PS. Look at your Coin and the coin @HAB Peace 28 2.0 posted for you. Compare them and you'll see the difference.
