I don't watch a lot of TV, Phoenix (although it does sound a lot like a Roadrunner cartoon...) care to elaborate?
Actually Carl I just remembered this one (how could I forget?). A few years ago when I was getting back into collecting (and was very unenlightened because I didn't know of the Coin Talk community) I was watching the coin vault (remember that one?) and he (Bob *&^&^%$#) was saying that you just had to buy this complete set of American Silver Eagles graded MS67 or better at the unheard of price of $$$$ (too embarrased). Get'm now 'cause stocks of these coins are dwindling. I bit....and found out later on that I could of had them for half the price I paid. Learning experiance....bigtime.
My worst blunder was shortly after I started collecting again. I purchased a $10 gold coronet in an NTC holder marked as MS65. I think I paid like $500 for it but believed it to be worth a lot more. Needless to say, I was not familiar with tpgs at that time. I ended up selling that coin for about a 20% loss. -StephenS
My worst deal was not believing tdec about wmsjewelery. I won 1924 S LINCOLN WHEAT CENT *NICE BU RB * HIGH GRADE. It was described as "This 1924 S Wheat Cent shows great detail with a nice red brown tone. The coin has good luster and grades MS 63 Red Brown. I received a coin over graded, cleaned and lacking nearly all detail. It took me over a month to get ALL of my money back from PayPal. For all my work, I was rewarded with a negative feedback because he sent me a cleaned coin?!?!?!
I also was taken by this guy who still ventures this board. What a crook. I had to go through the same crap with him.
My worst was selling my entire coin collection back in 1981 or 82. I wish I would have kept the coins I had back then. Like Carl said, girls seemed to be a higher priority back then.
I have made too many blunders to count over the years, but they get smaller and less expensive as I go.
My worst was a 1928 CU+++ Gold Certificate $20 that I purchased for $100.00 in 1979. I sold it after I got out of college for the king's ransom amount of $175.00 thinking I made out well. I sure wish I had it today!!!!
