Hey C.T Folks, I am still in a stupor from the purchase I made yesterday evening and the sight of sooooo many Semi-Key and Key Date coins! I saw an Ad in a weekly Trader Paper that we get in the area every Thursday about coins for sale (including some 1909-S IHC's and 1932-D & S Washington Quarters)! I did not see the Ad until late Monday night and figured that for sure, all of the coins would be gone or at least to expensive. Well I was wrong! I called the Gentleman and although he had sold some of the coins, he still had lots and lots more. Well, me and a friend went over and the old boy was not lying! He had numerous Semi-Key and Key Date coins and we found out later, that he has much, much more tucked away. He stated that he will bring some of the other coins out the next time we come over. I have no idea nor can fathom all of stuff this gentleman has but it is a lot! I know that he has a least two more 1877 IHC's, ten 1909-S IHC's, three or four 1908-S IHC's, quite a few 1859 through 1864 IHC's, 1932-s Quarters, 1938-D Halfs, 1921-D Dimes, rolls of BU Quarters and Dimes and so much more. He also has (I think he said) 70 Colt Revolvers from the 1800's and early 1900's that he wants to sell. He set the prices on the coins and we were more than happy to pay the prices! The list below is what I purchased so far for only $1,600 but if I had had $10,000, it would not have been enough for the coins alone. 1877 IHC 1 each in VG+ BN 1807/6 Large Cents 2 each with both in about VF/VF+ BN 1806 Half Cent - Small High 6 Stemless in XF/AU BN 1810 Half Cent in VG-10 BN Porous 1932-S Washington Quarters 3 each ranging from EF-45 to AU-55 1912-D Liberty "V" Nickels 4 each 2 in VG-10+ and 2 in F-15+ or better 1938-S Walking Liberty Half Dollars 4 each all in about VF-25/VF30 1899-P Morgan Silver Dollar 1 each in MS-63 1950-D Jefferson Nickel 1 each in MS-64+ FS 1925 Stone Mountain Half Dollars 28 each ranging from EF to MS-63+ 1955 BU Washington Quarters 1 full roll in MS-63 to MS-66+ 1955 BU Roosevelt Dimes 1 full roll in MS-62 to MS-65 Oh yea, I forgot to mention that the 1807/6 Large Cents may be the "small 7" Varieties. I won't have much of the stuff long enough to take pictures and post them here but I will probably keep the two Large Cents and send them to PCGS for certification, grading and Variety attribution. Frank
Congrats Frank! Good Luck with the next round of buying from him!!! Would love to see the coins he has as well as the Colts. My father-in-law worked for colt for a loooooong time before retiring to Florida.
Thanks everyone! I sold everything today except for the BU 1955-P Quarter roll, the BU 1955-P Dime Roll, the 4 1912-D Liberty "V" Nickels and 25 of the Stone Mountain Commemorative Half Dollars. Yep, the 1807/6 Large Cents were the "Large 7", Small Fraction Varieties so i sold them as well. I am really sorry that I did not have them long enough to take pictures to pst here. Well with more money in the pocket, I went back and laid down another $1,025 for some more of his' coins! Theere are too many coins to list right now but there are two 1908S IHC's in F and VF, two 1909-S IHC's in F and VF, a 1872 IHC in AU, two 1912-S Liberty "V" Nickels in VG and F, five 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarters in VG to F, a 1921-P Walking Liberty Half in VG, a 1921-D Walking Liberty Half in VG, a 1928-P Peace Dollar in AU and more. This really nice old fellow is like the Mints turning out more and more coins every day! Besides the hundreds of coins that I had to pass on because I did not have the money, he stated that he has many, many times that that he will bring out later. I did get to see some of the Colt Revolvers and in one suitcase there was about 12 of them ranging from the 1840's to 1940's. Several were worth $4,500 each, several worth upwards of $15,000 each, one worth $45,000 and another one worth close to $100,000 by it's self. He told me that that was just one of four suitcases filled with old Colt Revolvers and a couple of high dollar Rugers. Since I cannot even dream of every buying any of the Revolvers, I made an arrangement with him to sell them at top dollar (the highest price that a Gun Dealer that deals in these rare Revolvers will pay). I told him that everything that the Revolvers bring, I will give to him and he doesn't have to give me anything. However, he said that once they are sold, then he will make it worth my while in coins and/or money. Since I know a lot of the Gun Dealers that attend most of the Gun Shows within a 100 miles or so, I think that I can sell the Revolvers pretty fast for him. Well I will quit rambling with my good fortune and I truly hope that each and everyone here on Coin Talk will stumble into some deals as great or better than the one that has befallen myself! Take care and if you see an Ad with coins for sale, don't hesitate to make the call to see what the person has. Who knows, maybe I will see you on a beach in Jamaica! Frank
Great score! I know you dealt with this gentleman in an honorable way or you wouldn't be boasting about your good find. I would be overwhelmed by this find and would also try and buy as much as I could of the special pieces he had for sale. Unfortunately, for some of us,we would be shut out of this find due to the lack of ready funds. I know I could scrape up $25K for a sweet deal like this; Only to sell most of it in a short period of time, but if you're not used to this type of trade it is tough to do it right. You seem to have done it right. Bought, Sold, and are ready for more. I'm sure you kept some for yourself to collect. Maybe you should offer some of the coin for sale, here, on CoinTalk. I'm SURE it would be appreciated by all CoinTalkers. Bruce
Bruce, Thanks for the posting! I should say that I still can't believe that I fell into such fortune and I am certain that the Gentleman is happy with the prices, as he has now given me exclusive rights to all of the coins that he is selling. I am still in a stupor about what I have actually bought in three different trips to purchase from him. Never in a millions years, would I have ever dreamed that I would be able to purchase such a volume or even a fraction of what I have purchased so far in Key Date and Semi-Key Date coins. I have been to some big Coin Shows and I am sure that even some of the biggest (high dollar coin) Coin Dealers never had this many Key Date and Semi-Key Date coins! I am also the elderly Gentleman's intermediary (Agent) for the sale of his' Colt Revolver Collection! I have seen and even held a lot of rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers over the years but have never had held one in hand that was worth over $100,000 until last night. There were so many high dollar revolvers that I am still confused on what was which one that was worth $75,000 or $100,000 but I believe it was the 1846 Colt Navy Single Action Revolver converted to shoot cartridges with all documentation. Although the Gentleman stated that I would be rewarded for my time in selling the revolvers, I will try to take nothing from him since he has already sold me so many coins at such great prices and I will be purchasing each and every coin that he has...except for a few that he plans to keep. To be honest, if the Gentleman was not so understanding that I do not have really deep pockets (not rich or even well off), then I would have never been able to purchase all of the coins that I have purchased from him. He has taken several checks from me and given me time to sell some of the coins and deposit the money into my Bank account before cashing the checks. Well, I better go for now as I have several hundred more coins to check over and price before going to the Flea Market tomorrow and Sunday to sell. Frank
Thanks Frank for sharing some of the motherlode with me !!! Keep me posted on anything new:hail:
Wow. good for you. Nice finds for sure. I too would love to see the colts. And am interested in perhaps purchasing one or two. Maybe you could take some pics and we can go from there. congrats on the coins.
