I keep a tray on my desk so I can have a selection of coins on display while doing my work, and every so often I try to rotate out the coins. The idea is to display not just new acquisitions, but also old ones, rotating things out to reflect my current interests and ensure that all of the items in my collection are being appreciated. After a very busy past two weeks, I found an hour or so this morning to rearrange things. I know it's not perfectly symmetrical, but it'll do. In the interest of having someone other than just myself and my family see this, I thought I'd share it here. Some of the coins I've posted before, others not, but I'll get around to eventually. I'd love to see any displays the rest of you might have as well.
Great coins deserve individual photos which can be grouped together into a display but show each coin in its best light.
At the moment I just wanted to share my idea of maintaining a rotating display, but I should consider creating a 'virtual' display as @dougsmit suggested. After all, curation is an important part of collecting.
Nice!.....I always have trays next to me, this is one of them..... Whenever I'm on the hunt for a particular denomination hopefully I have a similar coin and wil pick this up whilst checking sellers photos to try and get a better feel....Works for me!
Great stuff @SeptimusT - currently my coins are in two cigar boxes. I do display recent acquisitions on my desk for a couple of weeks before I put them away. Great way to enjoy them.
....Completely disagree!...Great coins need to be held, looked at, felt and admired in their natural state.....Otherwise you might just as well buy a magazine....I do use photography to assimilate details that are maybe more difficult to see by eye but thats about it...When I post a coin its to show the coin to other people who may be interested in its essence not the quality of the picture...I also like to use photos to play around with the different details of a coin, cropping out specific area etc...But this is just internet visuality....The most important aspect of coin collecting IMO is the history behind the coin you are holding! I do agree that sellers photos are very important, this can maybe sway a buy or fail but as I said before, as a communicative media I'm not that bothered...
Great coins all! @SeptimusT that is a really nice assortment! I especially like the Indian coins, and your owl tet. @Spaniard, I have to say, that is an exceptional Postumus as well as a very nice Antoninus Pius bronze.
