This is a little weird. The top letter is obviously a D I am not sure of what the bottom letter is.

    Just zinc rot. Mintmark is a common place for the copper plating to split and rot to start.

    Here is a 1984D where the D fell in the zinc rot hole. It’s still in there I just can’t get a good angle picture of it but I can see it in hand.

    It's just 1 letter D. The rest is a plating issue that caused Zinc Rot underneath. We have seen dozens just like yours here on CoinTalk.

    Suggestion...
