This is a little weird. The top letter is obviously a D I am not sure of what the bottom letter is.

    It's just a damaged coin.

    Coin was damaged in circulation, not by the Mint.

    Just zinc rot. Mintmark is a common place for the copper plating to split and rot to start.

    Here is a 1984D where the D fell in the zinc rot hole. It’s still in there I just can’t get a good angle picture of it but I can see it in hand.

    It's just 1 letter D. The rest is a plating issue that caused Zinc Rot underneath. We have seen dozens just like yours here on CoinTalk.

    Suggestion...
    Please keep your future thread titles shorter. Ask all the questions you want in your first post.
