2017 State Quarter Error?

    Can someone please help me identify the reason for this 2017 Ellis Island, New Jersey-D State Quarter looking like this? Thank you.

    looks more like a planchet crack to me

    Yes I saw that. I'm not sure about that. I want to OP to answer the question. I think it is about something else. Maybe the faint lines on the surface.

    Hmmmm, coincidentally Meow was recently thinking about the gunmetal colored D mint Ellis Island finds from time to time. Meow remembers that this is the only quarter Meow finds that sometimes is found with a gunmetal color. As Meow is looking for them in the Cat hoard somewhere, they have not been found. Maybe Meow will find them and can show a pic one day. Maybe it is like one you show, but Meow is not sure.

    Sorry for not specifying. I’m talking about the gray finish on the top layer. There’s also lines on The obverse side of the coin. And they are perfectly parallel with each other. I will attach a couple more pictures so hopefully you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about.
