Got a metal detector for Father's Day from my kids, today I found one 1977 cent, one 1965 quater, and a 1977 Quarter. But the best find came next to a tree in my backyard, a 1917 Lincoln.

    Nice find.

Try going down to your local Library and ask if they have old maps of your city and look for places where poeple had meeting places. Old parks, camp grounds, train depots, and play grounds. You will be surprise what you will find.

Congrats! All I find in my back yard are pieces of scrap metal. That''s what you get when the owner a hundred years ago was a blacksmith!

    Beam me up Scotty. :D

You gotta tell us where the backyard is (city, state, zip code), how long you played for, and what your future plans are. Plus, do you have any kids interested in detecting so you can go in pairs or more, to search larger areas? Plus, where do you plan on searching next, the backyard privy, the neighbors backyard, or the Vatican? :D

    Ribbit :)

    scottish,
you hit a hot spot. Folks sit under trees to cool off in the days before electric, while sitting/lying back for nap, the coins fell from there pockets. coins tend to sink deep around tree roots, as the sap rise & fall lots of movement deep down in the soil. I'll bet silver coins await your return. good luck, thanks for sharing ,ozark
