I am stumped: #1 on making out this mintmark?? The closest I come is Mintmark TS Γ star. Wildwinds: Thessalonica RIC VIII 114, Γ, var http://dirtyoldcoins.com RIC 116v (VIII, Thessalonica) #2 finding an example of the symbol in left field?? #3 Every example I have found shows lettering on the obverse left side of bust as such: "DN CONSTA" ... If you notice, my example has "DN CONSTAN" on the left of the bust?? below, these are the only two obverse titles that begin with DN on all Constans coins... DN CONSTANS MAX AVG VSTVS DN CONSTANS PF AVG maybe i'm being to picky but both do not work on my coin... I have always had good luck when I pick the many brains here that know more than I, always open to new & interesting out of the box ideas... give me your best thoughts? Sincerely Steven
Hi Steven! Actually, this is a coin of Constantius II! The legend reads DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG. I’ll take a look at the mint mark but the photo seems to be a bit out of focus where we need clarity.
Not sure on the mint mark... but it could be Constantinople... maybe CONS Gamma. The spreadsheets on this page are a ton of help to me. If you go down to the FEL TEMP REPARATIO link you’ll find a spreadsheet listing the 2000 some variations of these coins.
