I just left the site and could not order the rolls. When I finally got to the site it said, "product not available". I got to another page and it said, These coins will be available for purchase until three months after the release of the first 2005-dated nickel or until sold-out". ???? Why does mint need to play head games? They tout they are going sale but if you're a small collector you get shut out. I don't buy for resale so I don't needs bags of the coin. Another govt agency you just love to deal with.
Nope, I can't get into the website either. I just wanted to order a couple of rolls, but I keep getting the "Keelboat" page. They must be having some trouble. I can't get through on the telephone, either. I suppose everybody in the world must be wanting to get these coins. Ah, well... I'll try again later.
Finally got mine ordered...if any of you are AOL users, try using Netscape or Explorer. That's what I did and the page finally came up. Whew!
Congratulations, GoldenRuler! I've tried every link on the Mint's website and not a single one takes you to the correct order page for the new nickels. Maybe I'll just have to buy some from you or ndgoflo...
WooHoo!!! Just got my order through. If you're trying to order the nickels, instead of going through the "Bags and Rolls" link, try the "What's New" link. That's what worked for me... I suppose they haven't updated their "Bags and Rolls" link, yet...
Huh, I see what you are saying!! The link I posted in the 4th post is the page that I used to order, but now it only shows the 2004 issues!! I don't know I got through the hoop, but I did!!
Yeah, demand for this nickel must be outrageous! You would think the Mint would have been prepared for this. And you would think that the Mint's IT department would have all the new webpages ready to go, but obviously that's not the case. Perhaps the Mint underestimated the demand for this coin. But, surely they realized that a new Buffalo Nickel would take the U.S. by storm.
I was able to get back to the Mint site and order my 2 sets of the P&D rolls. So now I am a happy camper.
Is it safe to store the nickels in the Mint paper rolls ? I know that some coins have an allergy to the sulphur in paper, but I don't know about nickel or Mint paper. Also, is this the "permanent" nickel design, or is this just for a year or two ? thanks
The Bison design will be minted for the first six months of the year and then the "Ocean View" design will be minted for the remainder of the year. The 2006 nickel will feature entirely different obverse and reverse designs unlike anything we've yet seen. It will still retain a newly designed portrait of Jefferson on the obverse and Monticello will be depicted on the reverse albeit a different design than the one used from 1938 to 2003.
