I recently bought a number of unidentified coins sold as Chinese. At least two were charms, one Ming, but I can't identify the others. Can't find them in any of my reference works or on websites. I suspect they are Japanese, Korean, or Annamese. Scan is attached. Can anyone please help? Frustrated :desk:
Top right: Tartar Dynasties, Dao Zong (1055-1101). FD1628, S1072, probably H18.20. A scarce coin if authentic, which I don't believe it is. The calligraphy is very sloppy compared to the picture in Hartill. I suspect the other five are modern fantasies, they may be charms, but I doubt it. The calligraphy is sloppy, some of the characters appear to be blundered attempts at characters typically seen on coins. Other characters I've never seen on a coin. Overall they just don't look right. I am not an expert, and I hope that I'm wrong. Maybe someone who can read the language will post a translation of the legends.
Thanks, DCH. I agree with your identification & comments. Have made some progress with the others: Top Left: Liao Tien-Lu TB Bottom Left: Liao Tong-He YB Bottom Centre: Yuan Zheng-Tong YB Average price for these was US$0.99, so I'm not worried if they're not real. :thumb:
Can't find it in Zeno.ru - found orthodox script but not seal script. Can you be a bit more precise about where it's listed.
