So if you haven't checked out the new CNG auction site, they are no longer listing bidder names. The days of knowingly getting Clio'd at CNG are over.

What does that mean ("getting clio'd")?

Well, I've been visiting the ongoing e-auction right now and I seem to see the high bidders names as usual

The current e-sale is the last they are running on their site. Look at the two current featured auctions to see the new format.

I noticed it appears that I need to register to bid as well. Wonder if that is true for every upcoming auction.

The email said you need to register on the new site. If you use your same email address it will autofill your address etc... At least mine did.

I wanted to start a thread on this
So welcome to the new sterilized environment ... No off increment bids, no snatching lots at 5002$ and no bidder names. Hopefully no Clio/Larissa snipping software operating at 3seconds before lot closure. Although I complained a lot about Clio and his likes I still prefer the old interface as it also provided an extra gambling thrill experience:angelic:

PS maybe change the title, I thought the guy passed

I was wondering if they were going to change much, and I suppose time will tell. But then again as per Barry's comment, we may not see 'Clio' but will see his address and that brings to mind questions of anonymity. I suppose I will have to register some anonymous new e-mail address and have it forwarded to my 'real' address. I'm a bit like Clio in that situation. My identity is hardly a secret but I prefer to keep rather anonymous if I can when it comes to bidder ID's.

I'm assuming they'll show "bidder 2" not your email address as the latter would open a massive can of worms for privacy issues.

Difficult to say as some sites show an address but I am sure you are right. I did send an e-mail to them to ask what the process will be. It has always been fun to watch the bidder handles, what they are bidding on and what they pay. I suppose that's a bit voyeuristic.

It doesn't show anything other than the number of bids received. No bidder handle, no email, no Bidder 2, nothing.

It doesn't seem to show anything beyond the number of bids - here's a coin with 4 bids:

I can't see any way of seeing who made the 4 bids or which one is leading.

It's also the end of @TIF's strategy of changing one's bidder handle to "pleasepleaseclioletmehavethisone". :D

So I just bid on a lot to see what happens.

1 - There is no "place Bid" button or anything else intuitive. Just a box with a check mark that you have to figure out is the bid button. There is also no "confirm bid" page so if you hit the check mark, your bid is entered.

2 - as stated earlier, can't enter you own bid increment, have to follow their preset bid levels

3- once I bid it now shows "Winning" and my bid level at the top of the listing, and a button to edit my bid.

4 - there is a "my Bids" link at the top of the page that shows me all the lots I have bid on.

5 - There is a limit on how much of a blow out bid one can place. I checked a lot currently at $200 and the most I could possibly bid was $1100. I assume this increases with each bid. This could be a problem if the lot is significantly under estimated. The bidder may have to come back multiple times before he can place the bid he wants to place. In this case, if I wanted to bid $2500, I couldn't, and would have to wait for it to get pushed to a point that $2500 showed up as an option.

Kate at CNG just e-mailed me back and said that you have to register for each auction prior to bidding (and if you are already registered with them its just two checkbox's each time). You will get a random paddle number assigned which will change each auction. Maybe after the auction closes it will show the numbers and bid amounts? We will have to see after the first one closes.

I didn’t test the website, but this isn’t the case on the new iPhone app, where the max bid goes all the way up to $100,000,000.

Hmm. I hate it when good things change. They must have reasons for each of these changes but I'd rather not have to register to bid for every auction. I guess it's not a huge hassle though and some other auction houses require this.

I also like being able to enter my own increment, often an off-increment bid.

It's too soon to judge but so far I'm not liking what I see.
