I received this back in change today and realized it might be overink on the FR seal and the district number as it look too bold and stand out. I dont know if it a Mint Error or what sort of error it might be. I need help to ID this. Is it Mint Error or PMD (someone outline it)? The top note are the one in question in one of the photo. Thanks for help.
I thought the same at first too. But then, I tried to compared to some of the other bills, and noticed the ink are somewhat similar. I used the transparent tape to tape over it, then took it off to see if there is any inkmark, but nothing the tape is still clean.
Paper currency is not minted at the US Mint. It is printed at the BEP. So you would ask if it's a printing error. Just a bit of normal over inking.. Simple Spend it.
If you check your change routinely, you should find that this is a typical issue, to varying degrees...it's a spender. Even though it's a Richmond, VA note, it's not confederate money!
i think i would auction it off rather then just spend it.it is a error never the less if it isnt like the others its a error not a major error but minor error
Thank you very much everyone for the comments. I guess I will throw it in a collection pile since it just a dollar bill.
As mentioned above, it is simply excessive black ink and not uncommon. NAV, no added value, spend it or hang on to it for instructional purposes.
I disagree. If submitted for grading I believe it will be returned in a legitimate error denoted holder. I've seen overinked/double struck third printings before - in fact, I *own* one.
Yours is overprint offset on the reverse (as noted on the holder). The OP note is not. Would that affect the possible error designation?
Nice note but yours states that it's on the reverse of the note while the OP's note shows no sign of an offset error on the reverse of the note.
Not all overink errors have to be associated with an offset. This note has both overinked third print AND an offset error, hence the semicolon.
I saw a similar one on Heritage Past Auction graded by PCGS and it's considered Minor Overinked Error. Here's the link. https://currency.ha.com/itm/error-n...-84246.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
I went looking briefly last night for an example such as this but couldn't get the HA search engine to spit out any usable results, I tried overink error, overink third print, etc... looks like it hung up not getting overink into overinking. Thanks for posting this one as it was exactly what I wanted to post, but couldn't...
