Found this 1995 D penny copper peeling off weird stuff forming on it (not sure if that's the zinc reacting to something) but whatever this is it's definitely an odd duck. "Trying to learn something new every day"

Finally an explanation I can relate to DBS "Dried Beard Sauce". I think zinc's time has long past and they need to go back to the drawing board.
